Veteran Services Center at Goodwill Expands Programs and Hours to Better Serve the Community

FREDERICK, Md. (October 1, 2025) – The Veteran Services Center at Goodwill (VSC) is excited to announce several new additions and upgrades to programs and services offered to veterans, service members, first responders, and their families. With extended operating hours and additional service providers, the VSC is further increasing its commitment to serving veterans and their families in Frederick County and surrounding communities.

“We are honored to continue supporting programs and services to veterans, service members, first responders, and their families within our communities,” said Katrina Thurman, Chief Mission and Education Officer for Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley. “Through many incredible partnerships, we’re excited to add to our existing services with new, additional programs and supports that were not previously offered at the VSC. Serving this community is at the heart of what we do. Together with our amazing partners at the VSC, we are putting our heroes and their wellbeing first.”

With new, expanded hours, the Veteran Services Center at Goodwill is open every week, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on services provided, or if a service provider is interested in getting involved with the VSC, please contact [email protected].

Current partners and services provided include:

  • Martinsburg VA – full time mental health care on site
  • Warrior Canine Connection – helping Warriors train service dogs while healing themselves
  • “Coffee with Comrades” – a weekly breakfast gathering hosted by VSC partners for veterans to come together and share good food, peer support, connection, and conversation
  • Maryland Department of Veterans & Military Families – full time VSO services
  • Thrive USA Home Care – free home health care for veterans through the VA
  • The Mighty 30 – chaplains, prayer groups, bible study, and individual sessions
  • Uniformed Services University – 3MDR PTSD recovery study through Walter Reed
  • REFORGE – monthly community wellness day, holistic health coaching and lunch gatherings, recreational offerings, combat action peer support, de-escalation training
  • Guitars4Vets – serves veterans impacted by PTSD and service-related trauma through the power of music
  • Serving Together | EveryMind – comprehensive resource and referral services
  • Mission Redefine by Mindset Quality – PTSD recovery group therapy provided free to veterans and their families
  • Cohen Clinic – behavioral healthcare for veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and caregivers
  • SoldierFit – nutrition, wellness, and lifestyle programs including Fitness Friday classes for mind, body, and spirit
  • University of Maryland Global Campus – education counseling for veterans
  • NABVETS – advocacy and support for Black veterans and their families
  • Common Ground – provides equine assisted learning
  • Frederick County Veterans Advisory Council – serves as a conduit for information and resources for the county’s Veterans and their families
  • Frederick Community College – Focused on teaching and learning, Frederick Community College provides affordable, flexible access to lifelong education that responds to the needs of diverse learners and the community.
  • Mount Saint Mary’s University – offers more than 80 undergraduate majors, minors, concentrations and special programs
  • Hood College – offers 32 bachelor’s degrees, 25 concentrations, 45 minors, and pre-professional preparation in medicine, veterinary science, dentistry and law
  • Second Chances Garage – offers “second chances” for individuals and families on their journey to independent living by providing assistance with their personal transportation needs
  • Maryland Department of Health – focuses on behavioral health and substance use treatment
  • Operation Second Chance – Provides critical emergency assistance to wounded, ill, and injured veterans and their families, helping them bridge financial gaps during times of crisis. Their retreat center, Heroes Ridge, offers a peaceful mountain escape where veterans and their loved ones can heal, reconnect, and build lasting peer support.
  • Fort Detrick Alliance – fosters communication and understanding between Federal agencies at Fort Detrick and the community at large
  • Goodwill Monocacy Valley – facility operator and comprehensive career services and workforce training provider

The Veteran Services Center at Goodwill is also excited to announce the 3-Year Anniversary Open House and Resource Fair on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
